Your puppy will also be de-wormed and vaccinated according to it's age, and have been started on Sentinel - monthly heartworm preventative.

We are with you every step of the way - thru purchasing a puppy to the death of your beloved dog.  Even if you don't buy from us, we're here to help!

Many breeders state that they breed for "quality pets".  What does that mean?  That most likely means that their dogs aren't up to the dachshund standard.  We, on the other hand, feel that a dog must not only be bred for temperament, but also conformation.  Our dogs are bred for show ring and your lap!

We NEVER guarantee size!  Our mini dachshunds have come from a long line of standard dachshunds that were 20 - 30 pounds.  And sometimes you will get a puppy that will grow into a 16+ pound dog, even if the parents are miniature.  That's just the way it is, and we will NEVER claim to guarantee against this.  The most we will ever say is, "Based on the parents weights..." etc.

We do not market our dogs as RARE or MICRO or DESIGNER DOGS.  We do, however, call them quality dogs!

Our Creams

Our creams are TRUE Creams.  What's a true cream, you may ask?  There's quite a difference!

Currently the American Kennel Club, who we register our puppies with, have a color called "cream".  Our mentality is that "cream" means "true Cream", or a cream that has English, Japanese, or African imports and has the chinchilla gene (see below).  But other's mentality is "if it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck, then it must be a duck".  Those folks are mistaken, however.

There are two kinds of "cream" in American today.  There is the "English Cream" (aka, true cream) and the "American Cream" (aka, fake cream).  There are many differences in these two types, but let me explain the most obvious.

Genetics

a) The true Cream is a dominant red or recessive red that has been diluted by the chinchilla gene. 

In the case of the dominant red that has been diluted by the chinchilla gene, the puppy will be born very dark, almost black, in color.  As the puppy ages they will lighten.  By 12 months of age they will have developed into a beautiful blonde dog.

In the case of the recessive red that has been diluted by the chinchilla gene, the puppy will be very light, almost golden, when born.  They will lighten as they get older.  These puppies are called clear Creams.

b) The American Cream is a dominant red or recessive red that has been diluted by the blue gene.

These puppies are born very light, almost white, in color.  Over the next 6 - 8 weeks they will have darkened and by 12 months of age they will be an obvious red color.

I have heard many stories of people paying $1200 plus for what they were told were "creams" - these folks didn't know that there were two kinds of "creams".

But, here at HillCountry Dachshunds we sell only true Creams or true Cream carriers.  You WILL NOT find any "American Creams" (aka reds) here.  You will be buying a dog that will stay the beautiful cream color.
